In today’s distracted world, many people face the problem of low concentration or low focus. And they are struggling to overcome this problem. They face the failure, whatever they dream to do. And slowly they become demotivated in life. They stop seeing the positive sides of everything. How we can stop this focus problem and how we can improve our focus, so we can achieve whatever we want in life.
Let me help with some tips, may be the suggested tips help you.
The mind is not different then any other muscle of the body. The more you exercise it, it will become more sharper. Like we do exercise in gym to maintain our body. So, we need to thing in the direction of the mind exercise, right food or nutrition. The best solution of all the problem in life, is to reduce the unnecessary things from the life, then you will be left with the necessary things only. The same can be applied in case of focus as well. Reduce your attention to the important and to the things that you really want in your life and leave other unnecessary things.
Tip 1 – Practice, Practice, Practice…..
“When you fully focus your mind, you make others attracted to you.” ―
You can not achieve best focus in one night. You need to practice it everyday and slowly, your focus will improve. You can start with 5 min meditation and prayer. Prayer is the best form of meditation but the condition is, you need to only focus on your prayer. So, don’t be in hurry, Just start with small and increase it with time. As i said the mind is also a muscle like other muscles of your body, so it need time to come into right shape.
Tip 2 – Avoid the distraction
Charlie Munger suggested-
Rather than trying to win, we should avoid losing.
Let’s follow the suggestion from Mr. Charlie Munger and we will start making a list of the things that will distract us in our daily life. The list can include, TV, Mobile, Social Media, WatsApp or whatever you feel. Instead of wasting time on this apps and tools, lets divert the time towards books and reading. That will help you to grow in life and help you to make right decision.
Too much use of mobile, will damage your mind cells, eyes and ears. Take care.
Tip 3 – Meditation and Prayer
Meditation is painful in the beginning but it bestows immortal Bliss and supreme joy in the end. – Swami Sivananda
Gratitude is a very powerful practice, we must do in our daily life. And the best way to show your gratitude towards the almighty God is to Pray daily and say thanks for all the things, that are present in your life today. This will help you to know, what you already have, and what you are able to do. It will motivate you. Start your day with Prayer and meditation. Meditation is another powerful practice, that we must do. It will help you to concentrate or collect all your thoughts. Start small and slowly you can observer the improvements in your life.
Tip 4- Build your TO-DO list daily
Building a TO-DO list daily is a very powerful tool, to stay concentrated in our daily life. I personally follow this practice. I list out daily, what i am going to do in the day. And then start working on the listed items from my TO-DO list. This list will help you to improve your focus, because you have already eliminated the distraction and now you have a already ready plan to follow for the day. Some people call it resolution. And this list will also help you to improve your will power, because to stay in the listed items you need to have a strong will power and with daily practice, surely your will power also get improve. Tip 5- Always focus on the present and the work in hand
In other words, your must know what you are doing now and why you are doing it. This also comes with focus. Om Swami, in the book A million Thoughts, has explained this practice in detail and he had named it mindfulness in our daily life. Always give attention to whatever work you do, like eating , walking, talking etc.
Tip 6- Exercise
To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise. – Gene Tunney
This is the most important practice, we need to adopt. Exercise will help you to bring your body in right shape. And also it will help you to improve your focus. Exercise, also help you to improve your mood and self confidence. Mind need oxygen to function properly and via exercise, you help your body to supply more oxygen to your mind. There are other benefits of exercise as it will make your body strong to fight against any disease, It will help you from growing old, Your attires will be fit and you look attractive, the most important demand of the youths now. Do the exercise daily.
Tip 7 – Right Food or Nutrition
To improve the focus and health, you need to eat the right food and nutrition and on right time. Basically, you need to focus on your life style and make correction in it, if it is not on right path. Today, people skip the breakfast in the hurry to reach the office early, they eat outside food in lunch and they eat anything like burger, Samosa, chat in evening snacks and they consume the dinner in late night. This all is totally wrong. The timing is correct, your breakfast must be between 8 AM to 9 AM, The lunch will be around 12PM to 1PM , evening snacks must be around 4PM and the Dinner must be before 7PM. The body also need time to digest, whatever you have consumed. Stop eating outside, or limit it. Eat less in night. Eat fruits in breakfast. Drink a lot of water. So, focus on your food, the focus will be taken care automatically.
Tip 8 – Start reading books
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. – Joseph Addison
This suggestion looks strange, we are talking about the focus and now we are suggesting start reading books. Yes, the suggestion is strange but it help you to improve your focus. The book reading habit is the best habit, anyone have. How to read the book is also very important, you can read it here. The book reading needs patience, willpower, concentration and memorization power, so this will be a very great exercise for your mind. Book reading forces your mind to think, and to think, your mind need lot of information, that the mind will search in it’s own database. So, your imagination will improve, your thought process will improve and your focus ultimately improve. Start reading books. You can find some good books list here.
Tip 9 – Start writing (Blogs, Journal)
Writing stuff, is a very critical skill and there are many benefits of this skill. Writing will hep you to think in multiple directions, to write a good post. And to think your need to do more focus and more readings. And our agenda of this post is also to improve the focus. So writing is a very great tool to improve your focus. Tip 10- Give rest to your body and mind
At the end, i can suggest, Just relax. Your body and mind are the muscles and the muscle also get tired and they also need rest to repair the damages that you had made in the day. So take a good sleep of around 7 hours daily and the most important, sleep =on time and rise on time. Follow the nature. The days are for work and night for sleep. Don’t be an owl and awake till 12 in the night. The right time to sleep is before 10Pm. I know, it’s against the today’s culture, but you are here to improve your concentration, Right!
