Focus on your main duty

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This post is inspired from the book The Art Of Living by Epictetus. This is a must read book on the philosophy of life. In this post we will look on the philosophy of main duty, that we have to focus on. What is main duty for us, that we need to decide for our-self. Each person have their own main duties. We must decide the main purpose of our life and work in the direction of it. We get many distractions while performing the right and main duties of our life but we need to get our-self back on the track and keep working in the right direction.

There are time and place for diversion and amusement, but you should never allow them to override your true purposes. People, things and the world will distract you, but you have to remember what you have decided for your life’s main duty and be align to it.

For some people, only eating, drinking and roaming around and amusement is the only purpose of life. When we ask them, they say, life is small and let’s enjoy, why to worry. I don’t understand it. Let’s enjoy, what does it mean. Is it only drinking, eating outside in hotels or roaming around in the city and always try to stay away from family , home and your kids. I don’t know and i don’t want to comment as well, whether it is right or wrong. For my personality it is not right. I am interested in giving time to my work, my family and my kids and my health. I don’t have interest in drinking, eating outside and aimlessly roaming on the city streets. But, everyone have their life and their vision towards life. So, no comment from my end on it. Let’s come back to our actual topic of the post.

I believe the main duty of life can be decided with yourself only. Like, we must stop blaming others for whatever happen to us. It is us, who is responsible for whatever happen to us or in our life. So stop blaming the outside world.

Another duty in life is towards our-self, like we must work on our body, mind and soul. We must find time for our body like exercise, for our mind like reading and writing, for our soul like Prayer and meditation. The Bhagavadgita says-

” One should uplift oneself by oneself; and one should not debase oneself because surely the Self is one’s own friend and one’s own enemy.”

We have duties towards society as well. Serving the humanity is like serving the god itself. Charity is the best way to do it. Let help the people who are in real need in whatever medium we are capable of like giving food, money or clothes, or donation to child care hold or old-age homes.

As a human being and the best creation of the god, we have a duty towards all the living beings on the earth like the animals, tree, earth, insects etc. You believe or not, everything have soul. We must not harm anything intentionally. we must care and nourish them.

We must not harm other religions and other’s believe systems. We must not unnecessary give opinions on other people and their believe systems. Each one have there life and there thought and believe system, we must respect it.

The main duty is , we must focus on our KARMA(ACT) only, and don’t interfere in other’s matter. Just focus on your actions and inaction and leave the outcome. Do your KARMA(ACT) rightly. Take care your outer and internal worlds at the best you can via physical exercise and mental exercise like pray and meditation. Speak truth and be with truth only. Leave the company wrong and wrong people.

Know your need and wants

Reading Time: 3 minutesWe normally attracted to new things to buy. And we will keep buying the new things in the market without knowing do we really need them. If we have money, we buy in cash or through account, and if we are running out of money then we will use the credit cards or other mediums. And this is the point, where we start losing our financial freedom to the financial institutions and sooner or later, we will become the debt burden. This debt will cause us to take the tension, and force us to do more work then our capacities. Due to the work stretch, we lose our mental peace and mental control, which causes the unnecessary issues with our loved ones. Sometimes, the issues among the loves once are too big, that will harm us for life long. And do you know the root cause- It’s just our want, not the need. Continue reading “Know your need and wants”

The idea of being happy

Reading Time: 3 minutes

“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.” – Earl Nightingale

You are the only reason of your sadness and happiness. Just try to enjoy every moment, don’t think too much because at the end of day everything is going to be okay. The problem you had a year ago, not a problem for today, it has been solved and you don’t worry about that anymore now. Then why to worry about today’s problem as you already know it too will get solved. Problems come and go, but life never stop. So, stay in the current moment and do the right things and leave the worries.

When it comes to learn to be happy, train yourself to be happy, completely internal, no external progress, no external validation, 100% you’re competing against yourself, single-player game. We need to work against our-self only, no one else.

The reality is life is a single-player game. You’re born alone. You’re going to die alone. All your interpretations are alone. All your memories are alone. You’re gone in three generations and nobody cares. Before you showed up, nobody cared. It’s all single-player. So, stop worrying about what other people will think or say. All things or talks will be forgotten with time and life will continue with it’s own speed. You will not be always here, you have a very limited time on this planet Earth, so use your limited time in all possible good ways and enjoy it to it’s fullest.

Just have a smile on your face always. It’s free. Try to find happiness in small small things. Try to spend more time with your kids, you will be surely happy. Play with them.

Many people associate the idea of happiness with pleasure, in reality it is not. As such they move from one fun activity to the next all the while feeling empty. Some believe that happiness comes from finding the right person to love, and while love does indeed contribute to ones happiness, it will not in itself make a happy person.

Happiness is something internal. It has less to do with pleasures and more to do with private victories. You do meditation, and you get your way to be happy. Because a calm mind can only find it’s way to be happy. Taking care of ones spiritual need and taking the time to meditate and cultivating a spirit of gratitude also goes a far way when we consider that no matter what we go through it could always be worse. Being thankful and grateful helps us to keep perspective and therefore making happiness an ““inside thing” so matter what is happening (or not happening) externally. We must always be thankful to all those, who had helped us in the journey of life.

Kahlil Gibran has written a very beautiful poem on Joy and Sorry in his book – The Prophet.

“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.

And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears……..

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

…………

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is given you joy.

Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.”

Failure is another stepping stone to success

Reading Time: 3 minutes

We are most afraid from failures, right! But, if we change our attitude towards failures than it will turn into the learning lesson for us. We can learn a lot of things from failures. The failures are the best teachers in the world.

We all know Thomas Edison, the investor of electric power generation and many other electric devices. But, do we know that Thomas Edison was a huge failure. Thomas Edison failed all of the time. It’s said that Thomas Edison created nearly 10,000 unsuccessful prototypes before finally refining a commercially viable light-bulb.

About his work, Edison is quoted as saying:

“I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”

What a great attitude, right! In failures also Mr. Thomas Edison, saw the lessons and opportunities and defined them as success instead of failures. We must learn this attitude from Mr. Thomas Edison. Why we afraid from failures, let it will be our success in finding the ways that not worked, so we find another way and try in that way. This is only the way to get real success in life.

Let me bring your attention to the right definition of success. Michelle Obama, quoted on success as –

“Success isn’t about how your life looks to others. It’s about how it feels to you. That’s what it means to be true to yourself.”

Let’s stop worrying about other’s opinion about us and let’s work on our inner appreciation system. Let’s be your own competitor.

“Experience life in all possible ways -good-bad, bitter-sweet, dark-light,
summer-winter. Experience all the dualities. Don’t be afraid of experience, because the more experience you have, the more mature you become.”-Osho(1,2,3,4,5)

If you have big dreams, then you are going to fail many times in the journey of achieving those dreams. The key is to have the resilience to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going, keep trying. Stop fearing, because once you stop fearing from life adventures, then only you can truely live your life. Osho said-

“Life begins where fear ends”

We must live a life, so that we will not regret when the end comes of our life. Bronnie Ware, wrote a book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, which is based on her time working with people during the last few weeks of their lives. You are fortunate that you got this life, so why wasting this life on meaningless things like money, property, cars and many such things. I am not saying that don’t own this things but with owning, don’t forget to live your life as well. Because in the race of owning such possessions, we are too much debted to the banks and other financial institutes, and wasted so many years of our life. So, own as much as needed, save money and spend only as needed. We must follow warren Buffet advice on savings-

“Do not save what is left after spending; instead spend what is left after saving.”
