The One Thing

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This article is inspired from the book – The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. The book is pointed on one theme for success in life and in work and that is “The One thing“-“The one thing that is essential to focus and work on, on any given point of time”. Instead of dividing our time on multiple things and assuming that we are doing multi-tasking. We must narrow down the list of essentials tasks list to one task and focus on that on task only. You have limited will power and limited energy, so give all your will power and energy to that one most important thing only. This is only the key for success.

To focus on the one thing, you have to cut through the clutter, achieve better results in less time, build momentum towards your goal, reduce your stress, revive your energy and stay on track. The book is full of this wisdom and guide you the right path for your success in life and work.

Always focus on one things or task as a time.

“If you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one” – Russian proverb

The One thing is the best approach to getting what you want. Go Small. Divide the big goal in small goals and focus on each goal one by one, every day. You get the success. Prepare your TO-DO list or Success-list. When you want the absolute best chance to succeed at anything you want, your approach should always be clear-Go small. “Going small” is ignoring all the things you could do and doing what you should do. It’s recognizing that not all things matter equally and finding the things that matter most.

Big success comes when we do a few things well.

The compound effect is the best help for accomplishing the big success by the help of the one things, by going as small as possible for a long time. You can see the changes in wealth creation, habit adaptation, life improvement, work promotions and in your happiness. The compound effect works everywhere. Just go as small as possible, and for a long time and in the right direction and work on few goals. You can not do or achieve everything in the world, just focus on few and your can get success there.

All the successful people and organizations have concentrated on one things only and they had made their fortunes in that one thing only. example- Microsoft, google, domino z, Intel etc. This companies are clear about their one thing and they had focused on that one thing only and had made a huge fortune. Remember, The success will take time, so be patience.

“It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world.” – Og Mandino

What is your one thing?- This is the question we all must ask to our-self. There can only be one most important thing. Many things may be important but only one can be the most important. And we need to find it and work only it. That is only the key of our success in life. If you are unable to find that one thing then you need a mentor, who can help you to find it. Search for your mentor for your life. Remember, no one can get success alone.

Success demands singleness of purpose. – Vince lombard

You have one life, limited time on earth, limited energy, limited will power. Focus on less. Identify your one thing. Remove useless things and people from your life. Save your limited time and invest in right things. Stop wasting the time, money and energy on useless things and people. In reality, we need very less to live a happy and beautiful life. Focus on the quality of your life. Not on the things accumulation. We must understand, in the first half of our life, we focus on adding thins but in the rest half life, we focus on removing things from our life, in the search of peace and happiness. So, stop adding unnecessary things and people to your life. You will be happy and left wit a lot of time.

Books are the best friend. Start reading books.

The one thing sits at the heart of success and is the starting point for achieving extraordinary results.

Be More With Less

Reading Time: 5 minutesMost of us is trying to ease our life but again and again failing in doing it. Why? This is big question to ask ourselves. We are failing, because we are not giving enough thought, enough energy and right direction to the things, which we should give. We are just running a race, which never end. The race is of possession, the race of adding more things to our life. More things for our luxury like new mobiles, new TV, new car, new bike, new gadgets, new clothes, new…….the list will go on. And in this process of adding more and more things to our life, we are making our life more complicated and tough, as most of the possession is bought on credit cards and loans. And the story will end up in paying the EMI’s and compromising on the essential things and future financial safety. Continue reading “Be More With Less”

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Concentration is a fine antidote to anxiety.  – Jack Nicklaus

In today’s distracted world, many people face the problem of low concentration or low focus. And they are struggling to overcome this problem. They face the failure, whatever they dream to do. And slowly they become demotivated in life. They stop seeing the positive sides of everything. How we can stop this focus problem and how we can improve our focus, so we can achieve whatever we want in life.

Let me help with some tips, may be the suggested tips help you.

The mind is not different then any other muscle of the body. The more you exercise it, it will become more sharper. Like we do exercise in gym to maintain our body. So, we need to thing in the direction of the mind exercise, right food or nutrition. The best solution of all the problem in life, is to reduce the unnecessary things from the life, then you will be left with the necessary things only. The same can be applied in case of focus as well. Reduce your attention to the important and to the things that you really want in your life and leave other unnecessary things.

Tip 1 – Practice, Practice, Practice…..

“When you fully focus your mind, you make others attracted to you.”  ― Toba Beta

You can not achieve best focus in one night. You need to practice it everyday and slowly, your focus will improve. You can start with 5 min meditation and prayer. Prayer is the best form of meditation but the condition is, you need to only focus on your prayer. So, don’t be in hurry, Just start with small and increase it with time. As i said the mind is also a muscle like other muscles of your body, so it need time to come into right shape.

Tip 2 – Avoid the distraction

Charlie Munger suggested-

Rather than trying to win, we should avoid losing.

Let’s follow the suggestion from Mr. Charlie Munger and we will start making a list of the things that will distract us in our daily life. The list can include, TV, Mobile, Social Media, WatsApp or whatever you feel. Instead of wasting time on this apps and tools, lets divert the time towards books and reading. That will help you to grow in life and help you to make right decision.

Too much use of mobile, will damage your mind cells, eyes and ears. Take care.

Tip 3 – Meditation and Prayer

Meditation is painful in the beginning but it bestows immortal Bliss and supreme joy in the end.  – Swami Sivananda

Gratitude is a very powerful practice, we must do in our daily life. And the best way to show your gratitude towards the almighty God is to Pray daily and say thanks for all the things, that are present in your life today. This will help you to know, what you already have, and what you are able to do. It will motivate you. Start your day with Prayer and meditation. Meditation is another powerful practice, that we must do. It will help you to concentrate or collect all your thoughts. Start small and slowly you can observer the improvements in your life.

Tip 4- Build your TO-DO list daily

Building a TO-DO list daily is a very powerful tool, to stay concentrated in our daily life. I personally follow this practice. I list out daily, what i am going to do in the day. And then start working on the listed items from my TO-DO list. This list will help you to improve your focus, because you have already eliminated the distraction and now you have a already ready plan to follow for the day. Some people call it resolution. And this list will also help you to improve your will power, because to stay in the listed items you need to have a strong will power and with daily practice, surely your will power also get improve. Start working on your daily TO-DO list. I have written a detailed post on the TO-DO list, you can read the post here.

Tip 5- Always focus on the present and the work in hand

In other words, your must know what you are doing now and why you are doing it. This also comes with focus. Om Swami, in the book A million Thoughts, has explained this practice in detail and he had named it mindfulness in our daily life. Always give attention to whatever work you do, like eating , walking, talking etc.

Tip 6- Exercise

To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise. Gene Tunney

This is the most important practice, we need to adopt. Exercise will help you to bring your body in right shape. And also it will help you to improve your focus. Exercise, also help you to improve your mood and self confidence. Mind need oxygen to function properly and via exercise, you help your body to supply more oxygen to your mind. There are other benefits of exercise as it will make your body strong to fight against any disease, It will help you from growing old, Your attires will be fit and you look attractive, the most important demand of the youths now. Do the exercise daily.

Tip 7 – Right Food or Nutrition

To improve the focus and health, you need to eat the right food and nutrition and on right time. Basically, you need to focus on your life style and make correction in it, if it is not on right path. Today, people skip the breakfast in the hurry to reach the office early, they eat outside food in lunch and they eat anything like burger, Samosa, chat in evening snacks and they consume the dinner in late night. This all is totally wrong. The timing is correct, your breakfast must be between 8 AM to 9 AM, The lunch will be around 12PM to 1PM , evening snacks must be around 4PM and the Dinner must be before 7PM. The body also need time to digest, whatever you have consumed. Stop eating outside, or limit it. Eat less in night. Eat fruits in breakfast. Drink a lot of water. So, focus on your food, the focus will be taken care automatically.

Tip 8 – Start reading books

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. Joseph Addison

This suggestion looks strange, we are talking about the focus and now we are suggesting start reading books. Yes, the suggestion is strange but it help you to improve your focus. The book reading habit is the best habit, anyone have. How to read the book is also very important, you can read it here. The book reading needs patience, willpower, concentration and memorization power, so this will be a very great exercise for your mind. Book reading forces your mind to think, and to think, your mind need lot of information, that the mind will search in it’s own database. So, your imagination will improve, your thought process will improve and your focus ultimately improve. Start reading books. You can find some good books list here.

Tip 9 – Start writing (Blogs, Journal)

Writing stuff, is a very critical skill and there are many benefits of this skill. Writing will hep you to think in multiple directions, to write a good post. And to think your need to do more focus and more readings. And our agenda of this post is also to improve the focus. So writing is a very great tool to improve your focus. Start writing with your own journal. You can read the journal wiring stuff here.

Tip 10- Give rest to your body and mind

At the end, i can suggest, Just relax. Your body and mind are the muscles and the muscle also get tired and they also need rest to repair the damages that you had made in the day. So take a good sleep of around 7 hours daily and the most important, sleep =on time and rise on time. Follow the nature. The days are for work and night for sleep. Don’t be an owl and awake till 12 in the night. The right time to sleep is before 10Pm. I know, it’s against the today’s culture, but you are here to improve your concentration, Right!

Concentration is the other name of the success!”  ― Mehmet Murat ildan

The Essence of Bhagavad Gita

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The great epic, Mahabharata was composed around 200 BC and the holy book of Hinduism, The Bhagavad Gita was composed around 100 BC. The Bhagavad Gita is composed of 700 verses and 18 chapters.

I am inspired to write this post from the book – The Bhagavad Gita by Eknath Easwara.

The Bhagavad Gita is often known as “geet” or song of the Divine, sung by Lord Krishna. It is a dialogue between two really good friends, in the middle of a battlefield.
Here is an excerpt from the book that i loved and full of wisdom-
The battlefield is a perfect backdrop, but the Gita’s subject is the war within, the struggle for self-mastery that every human being must wage if he or she is to emerge from life victorious.
The moral of war withing means is self-mastery.

It was Vyasa’s genius to take the whole great Mahabharata epic and see it as metaphor for the perennial war between the forces of light and the forces of darkness in every human heart.

Arjuna and Krishna are two characters for human and almighty. Arjuna becomes Every-man, asking the Lord himself, Sri Krishna, the perennial questions about life and death – not as a philosopher, but as the quintessential man of action.
Thus read, the Gita is not an external dialogue but an internal one: between the ordinary human personality, full of questions about the meaning of life, and our deepest Self, which is divine.

There is, in fact, no other way to read the Gita and grasp it as spiritual instruction. If I could offer only one key to understanding this divine dialogue, it would be to remember that it takes place in the depths of consciousness and that Krishna is not some external being, human or superhuman, but the spark of divinity that lies at the core of the human personality.

The essence of Bhagavad Gita comes to us when we start recognizing it humbly, paying obeisances to it and have direct liaison with it. The Bhagavad Gita also known as tri marga (three ways to attain liberation) was magnificently imparted by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. Krishna stands for pure attraction and attainment and Arjuna stands for Average human being.

So, The Bhagavad Gita is for every human being for accomplishing salvation. The Gita is the crux of all Vedas, Puranas and other holy books. The 18 chapters of Bhagavad Gita are segregated into three main categories that’s why its known as trimarga.

The three main categories include karma yoga, Bhakti yoga and jyana yoga.

The First chapter depicts the battlefield of kurukshetra and the position of principal warriors on both sides with their fighting qualities and Arjuna overwhelmed by infatuations gives expression to his lightheartedness, tenderness and grief.

The Second chapter gives a glimpse of the whole Gita i.e. summary of the Gita and it’s in the preliminary stage so as to make an individual aware of his/her objectives of the life very much clear and blatant. The sankhyayoga (the yoga of knowledge) should be instilled in the minds of the being at the very start of their life. The siddhant or basic principles of life should be set forth.

The Third chapter to sixth chapter divulges Karma Yoga (the yoga of actions) i.e. how to perform routine work and how it should be converted into swadharma. Here Lord Krishna addresses the significance of karma (work) which should be completely surrendered to divine and deals with just doing the work without expectations of the fruits. The essence lies when each and every petty work is done for Krishna. Thus our Karma becomes Karma yoga just by offering every action unto HIM.

The seventh Chapter to twelfth chapter, which stands for Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion), wherein it’s started that we should remember God or Krishna every time – Chintan.

The thirteenth to eighteenth chapter which stands for jyana Yoga (the Yoga of Knowledge). Which I consider as true knowledge”. So, the verses make it very clear that to know the “Self” is the true knowledge than only one could be gyani (knowledgeable). Further, the Gunas (qualities) of material nature is disclosed in terms of Sattva, Rajas and Tamas having their own significance in everybody’s life. Lord even says that Gyani is my true reflection.

Gita, is full of wisdom and everyone should read The Bhagavad Gita and learn the right lessons from it.

A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return” – Shrimad Bhagavad Gita

I would like to conclude the wisdom of Gita with other religions as below:

The Last stop of the genius train of thought—The ONE:

The Buddha said:

“The ONE Buddha-nature is present in all beings.”

Lord Krishna said:

“The real yogi, with all his passions subdued, is ONE with Brahman.”

Confucius said:

“Heaven means to be ONE with God.”

Moses said:

“Here, O Israel, the Lord is God, the Lord is ONE.”

Muhammad said:

“The ONEness of Allah.”

Lao Tzu said:

“If you open yourself, you are ONE with the Tao, and can embody it completely.”

Jesus said:

“My Father and I are ONE.”

Einstein said:

“[The ONE] energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from ONE form to another.”

In short, if every one lives one life and shares one love in one world, then there can only be one Being!
